Dental Implants

A dental implant being placed, showing the implant post, abutment, and crown in a jaw model. It used to be that replacing teeth was expensive and difficult. Even worse, the most popular options, like dental bridges or dentures, replaced missing teeth at the cost of harming other teeth or the gums. The dental implants of today have changed all of that. Find out how Riverstone Dental Group can help replace your missing teeth with dental implants.

What Are Dental Implants?

Essentially, a dental implant is not so much a prosthetic tooth as it is a prosthetic tooth root. What you think of as a tooth, the visible portion above the gums, is really just a crown mounted on the actual implant, which is placed below the gums. This replacement root resembles a threaded titanium rod, and its placement where your old tooth root used to be is what makes implants so effective. This is compared to traditional alternatives, which could only replace the top of the tooth and not the root.

Why We Recommend Dental Implants

Even though you cannot see them, the roots of your teeth are incredibly important. These roots do more than just keep your teeth stable in your jaw. They also stimulate the jawbone, telling the bone to stay dense and strong. Without that root, the bone begins to wither away. The face ages, features sag, and the rest of the teeth become more prone to destabilization. Dental implants are the only way to permanently stop this bone decay because they are the only restorative option that continues to stimulate the jaw.

All-on-4

At Riverstone Dental Group, we specialize in several full-arch replacement options for patients missing all or most of their teeth. One of our most common treatments is All-on-4, a complete fixed bridge supported by a series of dental implants. This immensely beneficial treatment concept has revolutionized the way we replace missing teeth.

Digital Impressions

Our cutting-edge technology allows us to provide a supreme level of care for our patients. For instance, we now offer digital impressions thanks to a revolutionary device known as an intraoral scanner. Digital impressions have some advantages over traditional ones. Traditional impressions involve a material that is often messy, inconvenient, and uncomfortable.

Dental Implant Restoration

If you are in need of a tooth replacement, an implant restoration is usually the ideal solution. Thanks to advancements in technology and techniques, implants can be used to support a single crown, a partial bridge, or even a full-arch restoration. We specialize in implant restorations because we want our patients to have the best possible care.

Single Tooth Implants

The classic dental implant replaces a single tooth. Just one surgery is all it takes to embed the implant. It will take a while for the implant to completely integrate with the jaw, but eventually it will become a part of your body just like any other tooth. The implant will then be capped by a custom crown made from a material of your choice.

Multiple Tooth Implants

Implants can also replace multiple teeth, and in some cases can do so with such efficiency that just a handful of implants can restore a whole arch. Dental implants are very flexible and can even be combined with conventional options like bridges and dentures. In some cases, you may be able to upgrade your old dentures to an implant supported version that offers superior durability and stability.

Getting an Implant

Getting an implant can be a little more complicated than something like a bridge or dentures, but it will pay off in the long run with fewer treatments, less maintenance, and a healthier mouth. Placing the implant will require you to have anesthesia, though typically a local anesthetic is more than enough, and undergo outpatient surgery. You will get a temporary prosthetic before having your permanent crown or other replacement placed.
